Hunter Carpenter is a Partner of Arete Energy. Hunter is responsible for finding and executing new deals, monitoring and growing the portfolio and helping to manage the firm’s strategic and investment objectives.
He has invested in energy private equity for over two decades, most recently at RedBird Capital Partners where he led the energy team and the deployment of over $1.5 billion of equity capital across the energy value chain from upstream to energy transition.
He was previously with The Stephens Group and started his finance career with Stephens Inc. Hunter earned his Bachelors of Accountancy, Masters of Accountancy and Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi. Hunter was a four year letterman on the men’s basketball team and currently is a member of the University’s private Foundation board, a member of the executive committee of the Foundation and Chairman of the Investment Committee of the University’s endowment.
Alex Goheen is a Partner of Arete Energy. Alex is responsible for finding and executing new deals and monitoring and growing the portfolio. Previously, Alex was with RedBird Capital Partners, where he focused on energy and CCS investments and served on the Board of Directors of CapturePoint, RedElephant, and Tally Energy Services. While at RedBird, he played a key role in the implementation of ESG and decarbonization programs across the energy portfolio.
Alex’s energy investing experience has been focused on the intersection of traditional energy and decarbonization. Prior to RedBird, Alex was at Pine Brook, a private equity firm focused on growth equity investing in energy and climate tech. Alex began his career at Evercore, executing on 24 transactions representing >$9 billion in energy and energy transition M&A.
Alex received a BBA in Finance from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University and was a James and Ruth Stewart Scholar. Alex now serves as a Board member on SMU’s Spindletop Fund, a student-managed fund that makes long-only energy investments as part of the SMU endowment.
Griffin White is a Principal of Arete Energy. Griffin is responsible for finding and executing new deals and monitoring and growing the portfolio. Previously, Griffin was with RedBird Capital Partners, where he focused on energy and CCS investments.
Griffin’s energy investing experience has spanned across the energy value chain from upstream to energy transition. Prior to RedBird, Griffin was at Stronghold Investment Management, a private equity firm focused on equity investing in energy and other real assets. Griffin began his career at Citigroup in their Natural Resources Investment Banking group.
Griffin graduated Summa Cum Laude from SMU and received a B.B.A in Finance from the Cox School of Business and received a minor in Engineering Management, Information and Systems from the Lyle School of Engineering.

Will McLeroy is an Associate of Arete Energy. Will is responsible for finding and executing new deals and monitoring and growing the portfolio.
Prior to Arete, Will was an Associate at Intrepid Financial Partners, where he focused on both investment banking and principal investing transactions across the energy value chain including upstream, midstream and energy transition.
Will received a BBA in Finance from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.
Chelita Hall is an Executive Assistant with Arete Energy. Chelita is responsible for all administrative coordination of the executive team, ensuring daily operations run smoothly.
She has worked in Private Equity for 6 years. Prior to joining Arete, Chelita held various positions at MedSynergies/Optum, a Practice and Revenue Cycle Management firm. She also owned and operated a business in the beauty industry.
